Hey guys, I really need your help!

I’ve been working on my new full length record Learning To Live for the past year. Every single song on this record means so much to me and I really can’t wait for you guys to be able to hear them, but being in college full time while trying to pursue a full time career in music hasn’t been the easiest for me to balance in many more ways than one, but especially financially.

So what I decided to do is start this Kickstarter campaign to get you all involved in the process of releasing this brand new record. I’m trying to raise $2,000 by February 29th so I can be able to press this album into physical CDs and so I can save up some money to get back out on tour to spread my music wherever anyone would be willing to take a chance on me.

I would’ve never been able to get to this point, not only with my music but with where I am in my life, without all of your support. You have no idea how much of an impact you’ve made on me, and I will never be able to show you how much it all has meant. I just hope that me trying to keep this going and continuing to write songs that means something to me will be close enough for now.

I really believe in Learning To Live. These are the best songs I’ve ever written and it marks a whole new beginning for me, so it would really mean the world if you would like to help me release this record whether it be through donations to my Kickstarter or just spreading the word. Every little bit helps and I appreciate it all so much.

My music is just as much yours as it is mine, if not even more so, so I can’t wait for you to hear these songs. Consider them my thank you for being so incredible to me. I love you guys with all my heart, and I hope you’re having a wonderful day.

2011 EOTY List.

In any given year, I listen to anywhere from 100-200 new records. I aim for two a week, but I slip up. There were a lot of albums that were huge fucking let downs this year, and there were a lot of no names that slipped onto the grid. Taking Back Sunday came back in an old way, and put together a huge disgrace. New Found Glory and Blink- 182 tried, as well. Death Cab For Cutie released The Photo Album for the 3rd time in a row, and still hasn’t found a hit. On the other side, The Dear Hunter, Real Estate, and Bright Eyes put out great honorable mentions. My list is more about the albums that you might have missed out on, or the ones that really nailed it on a second listen. I let iTunes make the decision for me, so if you have a problem, you can tell Apple.

End of the Year list, 2011::

10. Bon Iver- Bon Iver
9. Lydia- Paint It Golden
8. Manchester Orchestra- Simple Math
7. Deas Vail- Deas Vail
6. Braid- Closer To Closed (EP)
5. Jack’s Mannequin- People and Things
4. Bayside- Killing Time
3. Dave Melillo- Thinking of You
2. The Dangerous Summer- War Paint

1. The Wonder Years - Suburbia, I’ve Given You All, And Now I’m Nothing

This album was the most played of the year for me. The wonder Years really nailed this one, and deserve the recognition for it. If this album isn’t on your EOTY list, then you must not have heard it. Same goes for Bon Iver. Usually I save the number one spot for a band that makes a comeback, and releases something unexpected (Braid, in this case), but I couldn’t. Suburbia covers every detail of the average schmuck living in a shit town.

2012:: Please give me more Braid, The Jealous Sound, Motion City Soundtrack and for crying out loud, the new Jonas G. and The Fantastic 3 album. I have hearts I need to break!

You and I (Don’t See Eye To Eye) - Jonas G. and The Fantastic Three, “Love Can’t Save You (Only My New Powers Will)” 2011

I’m Matt Hooper, she’s the great white shark
The best damn thing out of Hazel Park
I’m a bad habit that she just kick
But perfect is what you make it

You are the girl I want to be with
But I’d hate to see things switch
You are the girl that I want by my side
I think our hearts might collide

She’s got a pull like Detroit’s under tow
No matter how hard I try I can never let her go
She’s saying she needs something new
That’s not happening I’ll do what I have to

You are the girl I want to be with
But I’d hate to see things switch
You are the girl that I want by my side
I think our hearts might collide

This just might be luck
I think she reads me like a book
You and I don’t see eye to eye
That’ll all change when you are mine

** I’m so excited to finally release this song soon. Its been 5 years in the making. We played it for the first time when we opened for My American Heart and Meg & Dia on the Hot Topic Stage for Warped Tour 06. We’ve played it at every show since, and have changed the lyrics every time. It’s finally set in stone with the recent activities in my life. To top it off, someone I look up to as a musician might make a guest appearance on the track. Jonas and I have been following his music since we started this band. Fucking awesome. **

you never know what you have,
until you see them stab you in the back
you’ve got class, as much as last sunday
do your hair, get all made up
put on your favorite dress
but maybe you’ll figure it out someday.

little miss sweet sixteen
daddys little girl and everything between
little miss upper class trash
where is the top of the social scene, anyways?

honey, honey, lets see who you really are
take a drink, make it four,
your face, to the floor
you’re not fooling anyone, anymore

get your mind out of the gutter and get into some clothes
is that the way you want to be remembered?
lush at first sight
lust, you’re just an easy saturday night

but, thats what you get, when you’re learning to cry
a guy each night, and each one will teach you a new lie
“don’t worry, forever, forever, me and you”
and you wake up to an empty room

jesse barrera needs to wake up and smell the rival summers! they’d sound great working together.

rivalsummers:

Well hey, I guess I’ll take that as a “Hell yea, I’d be down to produce your next record Leo!” bahaha
